Three
books to help you integrate your profession and your
call to further the Kingdom of Christ
Profit for the Lord by William Danker
Read about John Haller who, in the mid 1840’s, went from Switzerland to
India. He experimented with various techniques for weaving and dyeing and developed
the fabric khaki, which he sold to the British Armed Forces. John Haller was
a missionary who developed a light industry that created hundreds of jobs and
furthered Christ’s Kingdom.
Also told is the story of the Moravians in the 1700’s and 1800’s
who fielded more missionaries per capita than any other Protestant group. They
were self-supporting missionaries, working in various trades to make a significant
contribution to the cultures and societies in which they lived. They founded
Winston-Salem, NC and Bethlehem, PA but you are not going to hear about their
motivation to serve Jesus in most American history courses today.
“ If the example of the Moravians had been studied more carefully by other
Christians, it is possible that the businessman might have retained his honored
place within the expanding Christian world mission beside the preacher, teacher,
and physician.”
True
stories that tell of how Business, Science,
and Missions fit together to accomplish World
Evangelization:
The Galtronics Story by William Goheen
In the 1970’s Ken and Margie Crowell went
to Israel and started a business that utilized
scientists
and engineers
to improve radio frequency antenna technology.
They have sold cell phone antennas all around the
world.
Their
work created hundreds of jobs and the business
grew to where it had five manufacturing plants
in four
countries. Read about the resistance they encountered
but how
God
allowed them to prosper and plant a church that
still exists today, in Tiberius, Israel.
Kaarlo Syvanto – Pioneer by Unto Kunnas
Thirty years before the Crowells went to Israel,
God led another businessman, a Finn named Kaarlo
Saavanto,
to go to Israel where he worked for an orange
grower. He established a Bible Society that distributed
thousands
of copies of Hebrew Bibles, including the New
Testament. This is a powerful story of faith. Kaarlo
came to
play a key role in the history of Ken and Margie’s
business.
Pilgrim Resources International and Intent have joined
